JSON to CSV Excel workflow: start with XLSX

Searching for a JSON to CSV Excel workflow? If your goal is to open JSON records in a spreadsheet, use the XLSX download below. This tool does not generate CSV; it creates an Excel workbook directly.

If another system specifically requires CSV, first convert the JSON to XLSX, then open it in Excel and save the Data worksheet as CSV there. That second step is outside this site. CSV is a text format, so review delimiters and identifier formatting in the application receiving it.

Create your XLSX workbook

Ready. Input stays in your browser. Limit: 20 MB per file or pasted input.

How to get JSON into Excel, then CSV if needed

  1. Paste a JSON array of objects or choose a .json file. Each record will become one worksheet row.
  2. Select Convert to XLSX and download converted.xlsx. There is no CSV download button in this converter.
  3. Open the Data sheet in Excel. If a spreadsheet was all you needed, keep the XLSX file.
  4. Only if CSV is required, use Excel to save or export the Data sheet as CSV. Reopen that CSV and inspect identifiers, delimiters and nested JSON text before sharing.

Example input and output

Input JSON:
[{"sku":"0012","quantity":3}]

Tool download: converted.xlsx
Data worksheet:
sku | quantity
0012 | 3

Optional later step in Excel: save Data as CSV.
CSV is not a download produced by this website.

Limitations to check first

This page produces .xlsx only, not .csv or .xls. Each JSON file or pasted UTF-8 input must be 20 MB or smaller. Nested objects and arrays become JSON strings in cells, not flattened columns. Missing properties and null become blank cells. Browser memory and Excel worksheet limits apply.

Practical tips

Choose XLSX when you want typed numbers and booleans in a worksheet. Quote codes like "0012" in your JSON so the converter writes them as text. If you later save CSV, check how the next application imports those codes; text files do not carry workbook cell types.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download JSON as CSV from this page?

No. The embedded tool produces converted.xlsx only. If CSV is required, open that workbook in Excel and save or export the Data sheet as CSV outside this site.

Do I need CSV to open JSON records in Excel?

Not for this workflow. The tool creates an XLSX workbook that Excel can open, so the extra CSV step is unnecessary if your goal is spreadsheet review.

What happens to nested JSON in the spreadsheet?

Nested objects and arrays are stored as JSON strings inside cells. They are not flattened into columns or expanded into rows.

Will identifiers keep their leading zeros?

If an identifier is a JSON string such as "0012", the XLSX converter writes it as text. A later CSV save or import happens outside this tool, so review the receiving application settings.

Does conversion upload my JSON?

No. JSON parsing and XLSX generation happen locally in your browser; files are not uploaded. Each JSON file or pasted UTF-8 input is limited to 20 MB, with additional browser memory and Excel worksheet limits.
