Convert JSON to XLSX for Excel review

Convert JSON to XLSX when an API export needs a worksheet rather than another text file. This tool builds a new converted.xlsx file with one Data sheet from your records, entirely in your browser.

Use an array of objects, or an object with exactly one array property containing objects. Other non-array metadata in that wrapper is not exported. Headers include keys discovered in later records, in first-seen order.

Create your XLSX workbook

Ready. Input stays in your browser. Limit: 20 MB per file or pasted input.

How to convert json to xlsx

  1. Paste the records or choose a .json file. Wrap a single record in an array before converting.
  2. Check property names: each top-level key becomes a column. Optional keys can appear in any record.
  3. Select Convert to XLSX, then download converted.xlsx and open its Data worksheet in Excel.
  4. Review blank cells against the source: missing properties and null both become blank cells.

Example input and output

Input JSON:
[{"sku":"P-1","quantity":12},{"sku":"P-2","active":true}]

Data worksheet:
sku | quantity | active
P-1 | 12 | (blank)
P-2 | (blank) | true

Limitations to check first

The output is .xlsx only, not legacy .xls or CSV. Each JSON file or pasted UTF-8 input must be 20 MB or smaller. Excel worksheet row and column limits apply, and browser memory may constrain large inputs. Nested objects and arrays are stored as JSON strings in cells, not flattened.

Practical tips

Keep identifiers such as "0012" quoted in the JSON if their leading zeros matter. Numbers and booleans remain typed values; strings beginning with an equals sign remain text, not formulas. The workbook contains values, not reconstructed formatting or charts.

Frequently asked questions

Is JSON to XLSX different from JSON to Excel here?

No. The JSON to Excel tool produces a new XLSX workbook named converted.xlsx, containing one worksheet named Data. This page uses the same converter.

Can I export CSV instead?

Not directly. This converter downloads XLSX only. Open the workbook in Excel and use its Save As or export controls if you need a CSV file.

What happens when a later record has a new key?

The key is added as a new column in first-seen order. Earlier records receive blank cells for that missing property; null values also become blank cells.

Does a nested object create more columns?

No. Nested objects and arrays are stored as JSON strings in a single cell under their top-level key. Flatten the records yourself first if you need separate columns.

Are JSON files uploaded, and what is the limit?

Files are not uploaded for conversion. JSON parsing and XLSX generation run locally in your browser. Each file or pasted UTF-8 input is limited to 20 MB; browser memory and Excel worksheet limits also apply.
