Which file types and sizes are supported?
Split accepts .xlsx only, up to 20 MB per input file. Legacy .xls, .xlsm, CSV, and encrypted workbooks are not supported. Expanded data and many output files may exceed available browser memory.
Local spreadsheet utilities
Split Excel file online to turn a multi-sheet workbook into separate XLSX files, or divide a long worksheet into smaller row batches. Sheet mode exports each worksheet to its own file. Row mode uses the worksheet you select and repeats its first row as the header in every part. All processing happens locally in browser memory; the workbook is not uploaded.
Use sheet splitting when different reviewers need different tabs. Use row splitting for a source with a single header row and a fixed batch-size requirement. The row count means data rows per file, excluding the repeated header. A final part can contain fewer rows. Each output is a new values-only workbook, not a faithful copy of the original Excel document.
Ready. Input stays in your browser. Limit: 20 MB per file or pasted input.
Header: id | amount Data rows: 1 | 20; 2 | 30; 3 | 40 Rows per file: 2 Part 1: header + rows 1 and 2 Part 2: header + row 3
Downloads are individual XLSX files, not a ZIP archive. Empty rows inside the used range count toward the batch size. A header-only sheet produces one header-only output. An entirely empty sheet can be exported in sheet mode but has no header for row splitting. Keep original workbooks if you need to preserve their document features.
Inputs are limited to 20 MB each, matching WorkbookDiff’s file-validation limit. Large files can expand substantially in memory; use smaller inputs if your browser slows down. Excel output must fit worksheet row and column limits. Formatting, formulas, and charts may not be preserved: these tools write values, not a full-fidelity workbook copy.
Need to verify versions instead? Compare two Excel files. For a documented review, see the one-time audit handoff report; conversion, merging, and splitting do not generate an audit report.

Yes. Row 1 of the selected worksheet is repeated in every output. The requested batch size counts data rows only, not the header. The final batch contains the remaining data rows.
The outputs write values only. Formatting, formulas, and charts may not be preserved. Cached formula results are used where present; the tool does not calculate formulas or carry over cross-sheet references.
Each result has an individual XLSX download link. No ZIP library or server archive is used, and workbook bytes are not uploaded. You decide which generated files to save.
