Merge Excel sheets into one table: first-sheet workflow
To merge Excel sheets into one table here, supply at least two XLSX files and use append mode. The merge reads only the first sheet of each file; it does not directly merge all tabs in one workbook.
If your sheets are tabs inside a single workbook, first split that workbook by sheet using the Split Excel File tool. Each downloaded file then has one sheet, making it eligible for this first-sheet merge. Align headers before you append.
Combine your XLSX files
Ready. Input stays in your browser. Limit: 20 MB per file or pasted input.
How to merge excel sheets into one
- For tabs in one workbook, open Split Excel File, choose its sheet mode, and download each desired sheet as a separate XLSX file. You can also extract the ZIP download before selecting the files.
- Choose at least two single-sheet XLSX files here. If your files still have several tabs, only the first sheet of each will be read.
- Use Append first-sheet rows and confirm that every first row has exactly the same headers in the same order.
- Select Merge to XLSX and download merged.xlsx. Its Merged sheet keeps one header row and stacks the data rows; inspect the result against your source tabs.
Need other source tabs? Split a workbook into single-sheet XLSX files before merging them.
Example input and output
Original workbook has tabs January and February:
January: id | amount February: id | amount
A1 | 10 A2 | 20
First split by sheet into January.xlsx and February.xlsx.
Then append those files to get one Merged sheet:
id | amount
A1 | 10
A2 | 20Limitations to check first
The merge uses only the first sheet of each file and requires at least two files. It does not directly merge all sheets of one workbook. Only .xlsx is supported, with a 20 MB limit per file. Headers must match exactly for append mode; there is no key-based join or duplicate removal. Excel worksheet limits and browser memory apply.
Practical tips
Keep only the split files for sheets you intend to include, and remove title rows or notes above the header before appending. Splitting and merging create values-only workbooks: formatting and charts are not preserved, and formulas become stored results rather than live formulas.
Frequently asked questions
Can this directly merge all tabs of one workbook?
No. The merge reads only the first sheet of each file and requires at least two XLSX files. It cannot directly merge all tabs from a single input workbook.
What is the workaround for sheets in one workbook?
Use Split Excel File in sheet mode first. Download the desired single-sheet XLSX files, or extract them from the ZIP, then choose at least two here and use append mode.
Do the sheet headers have to match?
Yes for append mode. The first rows must match exactly in value and column order. The tool does not map different headers or join records by an ID column.
Does the final table keep repeated headers or duplicate records?
Append mode keeps the first file header and skips the first row of subsequent files. Duplicate data rows are retained; there is no automatic deduplication.
What are the privacy, format and size limits?
Processing runs locally in your browser; files are not uploaded. Only XLSX is supported, each file must be 20 MB or smaller, and browser memory and Excel worksheet limits apply. The output is values-only, not a copy of formulas, formatting or charts.
