CSV to JSON array with one object per row

Convert CSV to JSON array output for a script, API fixture or application import. Each data row becomes an object inside a top-level array, with strings kept by default so identifiers retain their leading zeros.

The output is an array of objects, not an array of arrays or newline-delimited JSON. Choose whether your first row contains headers. Without headers, generated keys such as column_1 let you retain that first row as data.

Create your JSON array

Ready. Input stays in your browser. Limit: 20 MB per file or pasted input.

How to turn CSV rows into a JSON array

  1. Paste CSV or choose a .csv file. Start with a small sample to check the expected columns.
  2. Leave Header row on if row one contains field names; turn it off for generated column_1, column_2 keys.
  3. Use automatic delimiter detection or explicitly select comma, semicolon, tab or pipe. Keep strings for identifiers, or opt into number and boolean inference.
  4. Select Convert to JSON. Inspect the array, then use Copy JSON or Download .json.

Example input and output

Input CSV (Header row on, Keep strings):
code,active
0012,true
0013,false

Output JSON:
[
  {"code":"0012","active":"true"},
  {"code":"0013","active":"false"}
]

Infer numbers and booleans changes "0012" to 12 and "true" to true.

Limitations to check first

Each CSV file or pasted UTF-8 input must be 20 MB or smaller, and large results can exceed browser memory. The output is .json, not .xlsx. Quoted delimiters and quoted newlines are supported, but malformed quoting is rejected. JSON-looking CSV fields stay strings; nested data is not parsed from cells.

Practical tips

Use Keep strings for postal codes, account numbers and identifiers. Header names are trimmed; blank names become column_N and duplicates receive suffixes. For uncertain delimiter detection, select the separator explicitly and inspect the resulting keys before copying.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result a JSON array or one object?

The result is a top-level JSON array containing one object per data row. It is not an array of arrays, a single keyed object or newline-delimited JSON.

Can I convert CSV without a header row?

Yes. Turn Header row off to keep the first row as data and generate keys such as column_1 and column_2. With headers on, the first row supplies the keys.

How do I preserve leading zeros?

Leave Value types set to Keep strings. Inference is optional and converts numeric-looking strings such as "0012" into numbers such as 12.

Which CSV separators and quoted fields work?

Automatic detection considers comma, semicolon, tab and pipe. Each can also be selected explicitly. Quoted delimiters, escaped double quotes and quoted newlines are supported; invalid quoting is rejected.

Are CSV files uploaded or size-limited?

CSV parsing and JSON generation run locally in your browser; files are not uploaded. Each file or pasted UTF-8 input must be 20 MB or smaller. Browser memory may limit very large outputs.
