Supported comparison and current limits

WorkbookDiff currently supports `.xlsx` files up to 20 MB each. It does not support `.xls`, `.xlsm`, `.xlsb`, CSV, ODS, or password-protected files.

Formatting, charts, pivot tables, comments, named ranges, macros, formula recalculation, external-link resolution, author identity, timestamps, and reordered-row reconciliation are not compared.

Privacy by architecture

Your Excel files stay in your browser

The selected files are read into browser memory for comparison. WorkbookDiff does not upload workbook bytes or persist them in cookies, local storage, IndexedDB, or page URLs.

WorkbookDiff sends anonymous counters for broad traffic source, selected comparison scenario, comparison start/completion, and CSV export. These counters are stored by Cloudflare as daily aggregates and never include filenames, worksheet names, addresses, values, formulas, workbook bytes, email addresses, or user profiles.

Before you compare Excel files

How do I compare two Excel files online?

Choose the original XLSX file, choose the updated XLSX file, then select Compare Excel Files. WorkbookDiff lists the supported differences so you can filter them and export a CSV record.

Are my Excel files uploaded?

No. WorkbookDiff reads and compares the selected XLSX files in your browser. The comparison workflow does not upload workbook bytes.

What differences does WorkbookDiff find?

WorkbookDiff detects cell value and formula expression changes, added or removed worksheets, worksheet visibility changes, hidden row and column changes, and used-range changes.

Which Excel file formats are supported?

WorkbookDiff currently supports .xlsx files up to 20 MB each. It does not support .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb, CSV, ODS, or password-protected workbooks.

Does WorkbookDiff compare formatting, charts, or pivot tables?

No. The current comparison focuses on workbook content and structural signals. Formatting, charts, pivot tables, comments, named ranges, macros, and external-link resolution are outside the current scope.
